The Service Charge

The running costs of Southdowns are divided between residents by way of an annual service charge, details of which are set out in the available properties section and vary from property to property.

Due to the size of Southdowns you will notice that the individual service charges are less than other retirement developments even though we offer more facilities and have a nurse on duty 24/7.

Cost Of Living

You will probably find that the cost of living at Southdowns is less than you are currently paying and that, in addition, you have use of facilities and services that you did not previously have.

Your service charge will include the following:

  • 24 hour emergency on site nursing service linked to an emergency call system.
  • All external repairs and maintenance
  • General maintenance and upkeep of the interior and exterior of Shaw Hall, the communal buildings and the estate generally.
  • Administration Office, the Medical Centre and the communal areas of the residential blocks
  • Provision of accommodation for the nurses
  • Buildings Insurance (you will need to arrange your own contents insurance)
  • Water Rates
  • Estate Management
  • The Communal Buildings
  • Maintenance of our extensive grounds
